From the Comstock series, 1987, the title is contemporary as is the new interpretation. Over the many years since its conception, I never defined its dialogue, even that I could taste attributes and implications that swirl in imagination's cocktail...
This is the first sharing of the image to a public viewing - the entire series has been in a limbo as new groups of images pour out in the variety of media that provide serendipitous encounter. In this series representations arrive and it is sometimes difficult to resist the temptation to qualify them to personal and collective associations and mythological tales that have long since perished of meaningful functionality. All that remains of their social dynamic are empty skeletons.
But even as skeletons they might serve our time but that they entice us to forge new symbolic heroes and heroines and give to them the energy to allow them access to our imagination. In that they preserve themselves and with us evolve, mature and arrive in fashion of wisdom - a trait we seem forever to be misplacing...
Who are the faceless that gather to hear Sophia's chants of wisdom; is it another face of mortality at background or liminal process announcing passage?
(Liminal - relating to a transitional or initial stage of a process.)
Let the viewer suggest an answer; for I continue to only have questions...
