Description
As has been noted in several of the compiled descriptions, the notion of 'static-movement', the paradox of the metaphor, is, for this artisan, a most important one. And as important as it is felt to be, the implications, and ramifications, are ever more encompassing.
In some ways static image, two dimensional images, i.e., painting and the like, have fallen from favor, if only that the public, at this time, is honed to a necessity for more animated and inclusive media. Multi-media, installation, for example, seem to gather the momentum, attention and moneys requisite for exhibition.
And if that is not enough in itself, technology, promotion, competition, to name a few, have fostered a mindset referred within what has come to be known as: the Age of the Spectacle; and it shows no symptoms of drawing to a close. Static image, in such a case, literally is bullied to a shadowy corner, or worse, is forced to become mere of spectacle itself.
Might, in prudence, there still be resolve enough to resist and wait out the storm? All of which means a dark age for anything less than 'full throttle extroversion'!...
Yet even if that last imply is weighty of psychological dimension, one does not have to scrape below the surface of societal mindset to wonder the trend. The novelty of our new found conveniences, sweetens the bitterest elixir! And it seems the elixir has become 'habit-forming', if not addictive; at every corner or alley walked, or every couch or recliner sat upon images are injected and rushes through our veins - and there is no one in the room to stop it!
But if such is the case, that society is overdosing on image; then what posture of insanity might this advocate of image be proposing!?
My propose is merely an old one, homeopathic and tested by time: 'like knows like', therefore a dose of something 'similar, not the same', might very well dampen the habit and allow a touch of balance to be re-gained. In this case 'image'; but image in its static and singular association; to an individual perception, rather than an entire cadre of perceptions jockeying in other multiparty attentiveness...
In a word 'private'; intimate one-on-one conversation - between the viewer and the singular static image that is trying to be heard as a whisper in the viewer's mind.
If nothing else, a relaxing, perhaps meditative, respite; and a chance to simply imagine the once simplistic acceptance of humanness in a world gifted of perceptions and imaginal potential...
It is paradoxical I find, that such suggestion, if only as antithesis, is implied in most every 'fantasy' that entertains our culture-body today; if only the 'Whatelseness' of it all was in question... As the empty plastic cup and straw is tossed to the trash; as we exit, on our way out.

That thought! Being in and of itself, has always been my KNOWING for my Self. A completeness, sorely needed, imho.
Terrance DePietro replied:
'Being in and of itself', in my own case, allows me distance, so to 'hear' something other than myself [in the ego sense] presenting vital and timely information into the arena that holds me a spectator. Spectator to 'reality' as we know and experience it. My contention is that reality is but one suitable part of something more 'competent' - and by that I mean that 'more stuff' continues to enter reality even that it is less solid-like. I further believe that it is through 'intuition' that our needs are yet anticipated; and that we merely need to 'listen' more to know more. In and of itself, an image becomes the lodestone, 'compass', necessary to navigate the course, the duration of time, that is ours... To whatever might be time's purposiveness [so to speak]. Why else would I have dropped the promised treasures of cultural paradigm to follow the path of these 'objects d'art'? How else might we have met? -tdp

Terrance, it is an honour to see what seems this whole Series together, and, to attempt to read your treatise to understand better your inspiration for these. I see your point only too clearly about the Age of the Spectacle. I shall consider it more, before further comment. Congratulation on your quest, your vision, your erudition, this Series. VIVA
Terrance DePietro replied:
Thank you VIVA; simply put, it is my ever familiar beseech that people re-connect with image in its simplest and un-usurpt status - of being something in-and-of-itself; before being something that can be bent into statistical utility. Images today are less and less 'friendly'; images today are strung together to bolster a 'desired' effect. They are weaponized and even simply misappropriated, misused and misunderstood! And all the time, who is listening to the single image for what they 'feel' about their being? Well of course this is much to do about the viewer's mindset; and yet it as well asks, 'Is there something more about this reality that is attempting to be recognized in the mouth-piece of a single image? En tout cas, I need to express it in better ways because I believe it is a distinction of great reliance. TY VIVA, Terrance x
