Description
By 4PM the December sun is prime to set within the next hour, near the Kaaterskill Clove. And if the sky is a coarse blanket of cloud the darkness is reached ever sooner!
And so it was one night in December of '08 as I stopped to fill my car after a lengthy day searching for artifacts for the camera's eye - those days were long indeed as I had a string of motifs, with sets of circumstances to attach to each, and winter was moving in anytime soon!
But even that I might think my daily task complete, 'the calling' (so to speak) was not quite finished... Stepping from the car a familiar friend was waiting me, and decked in a stunning light - light that I might never of imagined. The clouded sky still had enough glow that the curvy young tree, barren of leaves, was showing itself off, intimately, as a silhouette against the gray backdrop of the clove.
And that would have made for an example of the serendipity of branches for the would-be artist to study - especially having the example fixed to refer to from time to time... as an image that is. But there was more! Added to the crisp silhouette, in stark contrast, some of the sprawling branches were glazed in artificial light from a street lamp...
Well that was more than a decade ago and I have enjoyed those graceful curves time and again - now it comes out of the archive for someone to be tempted to trace their own version of a sensual tree branch... And perhaps imagine it dancing in a soft light, with a gentle breeze and smooth texture... whispering... calling....
