Description
High Peak has become a classic motif of the Catskill Mts. Resting above all else, it is royal when seeing thefamiliar escarpment. From its mythology of the First Nations to the writers and painters of the 19th century and photographers who followed, and still do, its presence ignites the flame of imagination and creativity flows to its base where the Kaaterskill Creek rambles to the Hudson...From this dip-of-the-road, on RT 32, the peak takes on the daily magical changes of time, weather and season. It is not the fog that 'dates' the image but the lights of our modern carriages. Not the road that Thomas Cole took to enter the Kaaterskill Clove! This road was not yet a dream in those times. Yet is here now and serves those well who voyage from the metropolis to taste what remains 'Forever Wild' - the Kaaterskill Clove and High Peak atop it...
