Description
If the 1980s reflected the inform of liminal necessity in its descending implications; then the announce of ascent from the depths came in the '90s...In full operatic fashion, a finale, explicate of the liminal tasks demanded; with the entire cast in chorus...
Of course its announce was mere to intuition; the understanding would reveal only with time, balancing and subsequent imagery. And even if the depths were not yet to the past, their profound was no longer a stranger - especially that the Sphere had been retrieved.
A mere four years prior, while on sojourn in Quebec City, the darkest of descending imagery was experienced, in another canvas, 'In the Pit the Sphere is Passed' (it is illustrated in my first book). And it was so striking and exemplary that it prompted a lengthy catalog introduction for a one-person exhibit by Bernard X Bovasso (artist, critic, philosopher, et al).
But that is typical of how imaginal form can arrive. Spontaneous, just like a doodle, imaginal form bellows out; and it raises a hint, if our attitude is open to recognize the 'hint'; or might we call it 'meaningful coincidence', as long as we realize its correspondences and implications. And as personal as the subject might be; it always has significance beyond to the collective, culture body, environment or other consequential exterior container...
That the images are recognized collectively, in their liminal motifs, a buffer is established. As 'buffers' the thrust of their impact gets absorbed - some more than others - yet as they are dealing with intense circumstance, any relief is a welcome. But there is another important impact in these images that makes them so treasurable:
The images surely depict an event, an event consequential, that is experienced; but also they conveniently reveal more of their informing story as time and the viewer move forward...They are layers of implications that have no definitive pattern but are very much unfolding to individual viewers, over periods of time. As the viewer grows and matures, so to the layers peel-back, so to speak, and there are as many layers as there might be viewers...
Mysterious, paradoxical and ingenious, 'form' is like imagination before it gets caught into a franchise of 'fantasy'! In the looseness of imagination the image remains partially ambiguous, drifts in-and-out of itself, lies in questions rather than answers; and so can move between the layers as necessitated...Yet that is another story, for another day, and another imaginal image...
